If you are unemployed as a direct result of a disaster, or if you were going to be employed in the disaster area at the time the disaster began, and your principal source of income and livelihood is dependent upon work that was affected by the disaster, then you may be eligible. This does include farming. If you have been injured as a direct result of the disaster and cannot work, or if you have become the major support of your household because the head of the household died as a direct result of the disaster, then you may be eligible for benefits. How do I Apply?
Specialized Forms There are specialized forms that all self-employed individuals, including farmers, must also complete and submit along with the forms listed above. These forms are:
All of these forms can be found on-line at www.iowaworkforce.org or you may contact your local workforce development center which can also be found on that website. What are the Restrictions? Since eligibility is determined on a week-to-week basis, your unemployment status must continue to be a direct result of the disaster in order to continue to receive Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA). If you are self-employed, you are no longer eligible for DUA as soon as you are able to resume your normal self-employment work activities. However, if your self employment activity is still substantially reduced, you may continue to receive DUA benefits. Who do I contact for more information and an application packet? Contact your local Workforce Development Center which can be found at www.iowaworkforce.org. You will also find application forms and additional information about the program on that website. |
