They’re called accidents for a reason…

While we can’t prevent accidents, Farm Bureau can help you avoid and prepare for them.

Our daughter is fast approaching her 16th birthday. She is eager; I am uneasy.

Although Nicole has tried to assure me she is a “good driver”, I am quick to point out they’re called “accidents” for a reason. After all, her classmate did not intentionally forget to check the rearview mirror prior to changing lanes and clipping another vehicle. Her friend did not lose control on a soft shoulder, total her vehicle and lose her driving privileges intentionally. (Fortunately, this friend escaped the accident with minor injuries.)

Farm Bureau Financial Services (FBFS) recommends setting rules for your teenager to earn the freedom and privilege of driving alone. One way to set clear expectations is with a Safe Driving Pledge you and your teen sign. A pledge form and other resources to help you prepare for a teenage driver in the family are readily available at www.fbfs.com.

A valuable resource for all families is the Auto Glovebox Organizer. The organizer has Five things to know and do if you’re involved in an auto accident, including important information to gather and record at the time of an accident. It can be downloaded from www.fbfs.com and placed in your glovebox – where hopefully you’ll never need it.

As a Farm Bureau member you can save on these options for keeping your family safe on the road.

New GM vehicles have advanced safety features such as On-Star technology, dual-depth air bags and child-friendly side curtain air bags. Over 70 models are included in a $500 or $750 Private Offer for Farm Bureau members to purchase or lease a new GM vehicle.

Save up to 15% on AAA Travel Memberships which include 24-hour roadside assistance for these services: battery, tires, lockout, fuel delivery, extrication/winching and towing.
