Climate and energy legislation called Cap and Trade has passed the U.S. House and is now being considered by the Senate. 

Cap and Trade penalizes coal and traditional fuels resulting in dramatically higher costs for electricity, fertilizer, and fuel . . . making your farm less competitive in the global market place.  Even worse, it will have little impact on the environment. 

Here in Iowa, traditional sources of energy, such as coal to produce electricity, will be priced out of use.  Unfortunately, without a true alternative to fill the energy deficit created by the bill, this legislation results in increase expenses for your homes and business.

Family budgets are already strained by rising energy costs.  Adding climate change legislation that does not take consumer costs into account will place significant burdens on Iowa families.

Under the cap-and-trade bills, families will pay higher energy costs, which, according to the Department of Energy, could grow by $1,870 per household. Combined with higher costs for food, the additional yearly hit on families would total about $2,300 per household.
